The Lacuna Works podcast is made for independent film makers, by independent film makers. Our hope is that we can encourage people into making films - any films, from shorts to features - by talking about what we have done and how we have done it.

Published monthly with - if we get time - a bonus episode mid-month, this podcast presented by Graham Guy and Ben Slythe looks at the world of films and occasionaly television, and how The Lacuna Works has started to make inroads into the industry.

Episode 11: 5th March 2010 - Lighting, John Landis, and Websites.
We realised that somewhere along the line we had forgotten to talk about lighting, so this week we fix that and talk about basic lighting techniques for simple setups. Ben talks about the film legend that is John Landis, and then we go on to discuss some of the websites that we use regularly.
Episode 10: 9th February 2010 - Colour sampling, Avatar again, Tapeless workflow, George A Romero, and the Oscars.
Have you ever wondered what 422 or 420 meant? No? Well you will after you have listened to this podcast episode as Ben and Graham try to make sense of something best described with diagrams on a whiteboard using only an audio recording to do so. We also talk about Avatar again, and Ben discusses one of his favourite directors, George A Romero.
Episode 9: 16th January 2010 - The great HD debate, AB update, Bokeh, and Michael Haneke.
In our first podcast back from the Christmas break, Ben and Graham talk about the debate surrounding the HD 'look' being discussed on the TV forums as to whether the BBC's HD channels are 'HD enough'. There is an update on our forthcoming film AB, and Ben talks about Michael Haneke, the award-winning German director.
Episode 8: 14th December 2009 - Clapper boards, Balanced Lines, and George Lucas
Ben discusses the clapper board, what it's for and how it's used, Graham carries on the sound discussion from last episode and explains balanced lines and what they are for, and then Ben talks about George Lucas. We had to record this in a noisier than usual location this time so apologies for the background din.
Episode 7: 30th November 2009 - Networking meeting, Sound boom, and Uwe Boll.
We talk about the re-launch of The Lacuna (Net)works, our networking evenings, and Uwe Boll, the director. We also talk about the use of booms or fish-poles for microphones, and how to avoid common mistakes.
Episode 6: 22nd November 2009 - Film Look, and Jaws.
A question that is asked all the time is how to make film shot on a cheap camera look as though it was shot on film. We look at what is really meant by this question and try to find a possible answer.
Episode 5: 11th November 2009 - HorrorUK Interview, F-Stops, and Anamorphic
After Underwood was shown at the Horror UK film Festival in Fareham Ben interviewed Joe Jenkins about the films, the festival and what is next. We then cover the subject of F-Stops and explain what is meant by the term Anamorphic that you see on DVDs.
Episode 4: 3rd November 2009 - White Balance, Chromakey, and Filters
After an episode of us talking non-stop about sound, this one concentrates on vision, and the picture elements of film making.
Episode 3: 18th October 2009 - Sound, Microphones, and Foley
This episode we are starting to answer questions put forward by our listeners, and we start with the subject of what microphone you should buy to improve your budget video camera. Ben talks about Foley and how to make it, and we update you on AB.
Episode 2: 11th October 2009- GGIs and Victor Fleming
The second podcast, where we talk about GGIs and introduce Victor Fleming, the most successful director that you will never have heard of.
